We’ve put a list together of a few of our favorite windsurfing spots around the South Florida areas for you to explore!
If you’re looking for a cozy and laid-back atmosphere for windsurfing, then the beaches around Port St. Lucie and Stuart, Florida are perfect for you. Jensen Beach and Hutchinson Island have windsurfing for all levels of experience. Known for its relaxed surfing with an old school feel, the Port St. Lucie area has plenty of windsurfing outfitters and instructors for beginners.
There are a number of excellent locations for windsurfing in South Florida around the Palm Beach area. Beaches like Jupiter Inlet and Hobe Sound are recognized for having great windsurfing conditions, even when everywhere else is flat. The windiest time of the year is between September and May, so we recommend beginners visit during the summer months when the water has calmed.
Found just north of the historic Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach is one of the best places to windsurf in Florida. Often referred to as the “heart of the Gold Coast,” Pompano Beach is a very popular location for windsurfers with moderate to advanced experience. Kite surfing is also very common here, so make sure to avoid getting caught up in their lines!
Tucked between Downtown Miami and Key Biscayne, you’ll find Hobie Beach (not to be confused with Hobe Sound), one of the most well known beaches for windsurfing. In fact, Hobie Beach has become so famous for its windsurfing; its nickname is “Windsurfer Beach.” So it comes as no surprise that many Floridians have learned to windsurf on Key Biscayne, and still find the popular water sport to be a fun and thrilling activity.
